Packed Desert Sands 4x4

List what your group needs

Separate personal bags from supplies and things required during a drive. Check current vehicle details and the quote for inclusions rather than assuming equipment is supplied.

Imagine making camp: which bags must move, where does bedding go and can everyone reach the things they need? Ask Wicked how the offered vehicle is arranged and what load guidance applies.

Pack in layers of access

Keep items needed during a drive easy to reach without opening the entire camping setup. Group overnight items separately, and plan where wet or dusty belongings could go without blocking the driver’s view or leaving loose gear unsecured.

The picture shows an example camping setup rather than a packing promise. Ask the operator about the storage, load requirements and equipment provided with your particular vehicle.

Keep the vehicle organised

Follow the operator’s storage and securing instructions and keep the driver’s view clear. Soft bags may be easier to arrange, but they do not change load limits.

  • Keep frequently needed items accessible.
  • Ask about permitted loads and storage.
  • Secure equipment for travel.
  • Plan route-specific supplies using current official advice.

Organise for the drive and the campsite

Group the items you need during the day separately from those used only at night. A small accessible bag for water, maps and personal essentials can help avoid unpacking every time you stop. Keep anything that could shift secured according to the vehicle instructions.

Before relying on a packing method, check where the sleeping equipment and other supplied items actually sit. The space available while travelling may not be the same space available when a bed or tent is open.

Ask the operator about load guidance and how passengers, luggage and equipment should be arranged. Avoid placing items where they obstruct the driver or safe access to the vehicle. Do not assume that a vehicle with more seats can carry an unlimited amount of luggage.

If the itinerary includes remote sections, consider water, food, fuel, navigation and communication with reference to current guidance for those specific roads. Verify services and opening hours rather than packing around an unconfirmed stop.

Practise at pickup

Ask for a walkthrough of the sleeping setup and storage before leaving. Check how everything is secured for travel and who to contact if you need help.
